Free pet vaccines available in Lexington through Petco Love partnership
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Lexington-Fayette Animal Care & Control will distribute free pet vaccines on April 15, partnering with Petco Love's national Vaccinated and Loved initiative to combat preventable diseases in dogs and cats.
The free vaccine clinic runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Grace United Lutheran Episcopal Church, 1870 Armstrong Mill Road. LFACC aims to vaccinate 500 pets through the partnership, which has already provided four million free vaccines nationwide since its 2021 launch.
The clinic will offer free DAPPv canine and HCP feline vaccines made possible through Petco Love's funding. Additional affordable vaccines will be available for purchase, including rabies, DA2PP, Bordetella, and FVRCP shots, along with microchipping services and city licenses. No appointment is necessary, and attendees should bring a form of identification. Out-of-county residents are welcome.
Parvovirus and distemper in dogs and panleukopenia in cats represent the most prevalent deadly diseases affecting pets and are preventable through vaccination. According to survey data from Petco Love clinics, only 38% of pet parents reported their animals had received similar vaccines previously, highlighting critical gaps in preventive care access.
"Access to preventive care is critical," said Meghan Hawkins, Director of Development for Lexington Humane Society. "When we remove access barriers, more pets stay protected — and that benefits our entire community."
The free vaccine initiative particularly benefits financially strained families facing cost barriers to veterinary care. Survey data shows that for nearly half of pet parents attending free clinics, these events represent their primary opportunity to ensure their pets receive vaccinations and connect with veterinary guidance.
Free giveaways will be distributed while supplies last. For more information, contact LFACC at (859) 255-9033 or visit PetcoLove.org.
