LEXINGTON, Ky. — BJ Martin, associate principal at Henry Clay High School, has been selected as vice president of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators, according to Fayette County Public Schools. She took office following her election at KASA's Annual Leadership Institute, which concluded July 31 in Louisville.

In her new role as a member of the board of directors' officer team, Martin will help advocate for key legislation in Frankfort and support leadership development for current and aspiring principals and assistant principals across the state. Board candidates are nominated by fellow KASA members and selected through committee interviews and board consideration.

Martin has been a KASA member since 2007 and has served five years on the KASA Board of Directors. She currently serves on the Executive Policy Council and School Safety Council. She is also active in the Coalition to Sustain Public Education, where she has co-chaired task forces focused on recruitment and retention of teachers and equitable compensation across Kentucky districts.

In 2023, Martin was named the KASA School Administrator of the Year. She was also part of the Kentucky Women in Education Leadership cohort.

Martin is in her 27th year in education overall and her 10th year with Fayette County Public Schools. She has been at Henry Clay for three years, where the school is transitioning to an academy model. Previously in the district, she served as an administrator at Winburn Middle School and as elementary director of Teaching and Learning. A native of Eastern Kentucky, Martin holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Eastern Kentucky University and is working on a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies there. She holds certifications for principal, instructional supervisor, and superintendent.
