Kentucky voter registration continues upward trend
Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams has announced that voter registration continued to grow in November, adding more Kentuckians to the voter rolls despite no state elections scheduled this year.
The growth comes as the state prepares for a busy election cycle in 2026. Kentucky will hold its primary election May 19, 2026, with all 100 Kentucky House seats, even-numbered state Senate districts, six Congressional seats and a U.S. Senate seat up for election.
The U.S. Senate race will be particularly significant. Republican Mitch McConnell of Louisville, the longest-serving U.S. Senator in Kentucky history, has announced he is not seeking an eighth term after holding the office since 1985.
Kentuckians interested in voting in the 2026 primary should note important deadlines. The last day to change political party affiliation and vote with the new party in the primary is December 31, 2025, with the filing deadline for candidates set for January 9, 2026.
Early in-person voting is available for three days prior to primary election day—Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 14-16. Eligible Kentuckians can register to vote online through the state's voter registration website, by mail or in person at their county clerk's office.
