LEXINGTON, Ky. — Fayette County Public Schools announced several specialized academic programs have remaining openings for the 2026-27 school year, with applications due by Aug. 7.

The district's magnet, gifted and talented, and specialized programs offer students opportunities to focus on areas including science, arts and languages. "There is still time for your student to apply for one of our world-class programs," said Julie Gann, associate director of Gifted & Talented Services. "FCPS is always looking for ways to expand access to learning opportunities for our students, even as we count down to the start of school."

The Biomedical Sciences Magnet Program at Frederick Douglass High remains open for grades 9 and 10. The rigorous four-course sequence explores human medicine, physiology, genetics, microbiology and public health, with students investigating real-world medical cases and earning potential college credit through partnerships with local universities.

For middle school students, the Dual-Language Immersion program at Bryan Station High has openings for grades 9 and 10, though applications close earlier on Monday, Aug. 3. Elementary students can apply to George Washington Carver STEM Academy for Boys, which has spots in kindergarten and fourth grade, or Rise STEM Academy for Girls, which is accepting applications for sixth grade.

The district also offers Success Academy's virtual learning program year-round for grades 6-12. Family interested in any of the programs can apply through the online application portal or visit the district's magnet and specialized programs page for more information about each opportunity.
