LEXINGTON, Ky. — Leestown Middle School swept both the regular-season and tournament championships in Fayette County Public Schools' middle school girls' basketball competition this season, capping off a dominant run that also produced the 2026 Player of the Year, according to a school district announcement.

Malaiya Mobley of Leestown earned Player of the Year honors after leading her team to the championships. The Leestown program's success reflects what the district characterized as strong commitment and emerging talent among its middle school student-athletes.

Edythe J. Hayes finished as runner-up in the eighth-grade tournament, while Morton took second place in the seventh-grade tournament on Sept. 24. Jessie Clark won the sixth-grade tournament earlier this month, with Morton finishing as runner-up in that division.

The district also recognized 10 players on its 2026 All-City Team across multiple schools. Besides Mobley and fellow Leestown honoree Eva Jallow, the selections included Nora Jane Dick and Zoey Stigall from Edythe J. Hayes; C'onna Simpson and Jaelyn Parker from Southern; Sachita Sivakumar and Paige Bonin from Beaumont; Jaylee Turner from Morton; and Georgia Sleet from Tates Creek.

The accomplishments underscore the depth of talent across Fayette County's middle school basketball programs. District officials noted that the teams demonstrated strong sportsmanship and competitive play throughout the season, establishing standards for future student-athletes in the county.
