
Dunbar, Douglass, Tates Creek claim opening wins
Paul Laurence Dunbar edged East Jessamine 8-7 in a defensive battle on Friday night, with the Bulldogs' run-first attack leading the way. Tates Creek beat South Oldham 24-14 at South Oldham, and Frederick Douglass dominated DuPont Manual 27-7 at DuPont Manual Stadium.
On the losing end, Bryan Station fell 26-18 to Corbin at Campbell Field. Henry Clay, seeking a turnaround in year two under head coach Phillip Hawkins, surrendered 63 points in a loss to Henderson County at home. Lafayette bounced back to beat Franklin-Simpson 40-32 at Franklin-Simpson, while Lexington Catholic lost 35-21 to Boyle County on the road and Lexington Christian fell 66-21 at home to Christian Academy-Louisville.
In girls' volleyball, Paul Laurence Dunbar swept its opening tournament at Game Point Orlando, defeating Ursuline, King's Ridge Christian, and North Hall—each by 2-0 scores.
