Lexington Humane Society celebrates PetSmart adoption center reopening
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Lexington Humane Society will celebrate the grand reopening of its adoption center inside PetSmart on March 28, coinciding with PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week. The event begins at 10 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting and remarks from Summer Jackson, president of Lexington Humane Society, and Aimee Gilbreath, president of PetSmart Charities.
The partnership with PetSmart Charities provides dedicated space for up to 30 adoptable pets inside the PetSmart location at 1945 Pavilion Way. The expanded presence aims to make adoptable animals more accessible to the Lexington community, where the Humane Society serves nearly 4,000 pets annually seeking homes.
Visitors to the grand opening will find adoptable pets of varying ages, sizes and temperaments, with volunteers available to help match families with animals suited to their lifestyles. Prospective adopters who complete adoptions during National Adoption Week, running March 23-29, will receive several incentives including a $350 coupon book, a free bag of Hill's Pet Nutrition food, and eligibility for PetSmart Treats rewards program status.
"This partnership has the power to change countless lives—bringing together our community, local businesses, and animal lovers to give more pets the second chances they deserve," said Meghan Hawkins, director of development at Lexington Humane Society, in a statement.
The Lexington Humane Society, founded in 1889, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding homes for animals in need. PetSmart Charities facilitates adoptions across PetSmart stores nationwide, helping connect approximately 400,000 pets with families annually. The organization has distributed more than $600 million in grants since its 1994 inception and holds a consecutive Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator.
