LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Lexington Humane Society has officially renamed its main campus the Susan Malcomb Humane Campus in recognition of the former president's decades-long commitment to animal welfare in the community.

The facility at 1600 Old Frankfort Pike will continue serving as the hub for the organization's adoption, education, and outreach programs. Updated signage throughout the campus now honors Malcomb's contributions to the nonprofit, which was founded in 1889.

"This name change reflects the heart and commitment Susan has shown to our community and the animals who depend on us," said Summer Jackson, current LHS president. "Her legacy is woven into every life touched by LHS, and we are privileged to honor her this way."

Malcomb's leadership has resulted in lasting impacts on thousands of animals through the organization's work in facilitating adoptions and promoting responsible pet ownership. The Lexington Humane Society is the largest pet adoption agency in Central Kentucky and operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that relies solely on private donations, grants, and community support with no government funding.

In addition to adoptions, LHS provides community education on compassionate animal treatment and offers spay and neuter services at low cost to qualifying families. The organization invites community members to celebrate the naming by making donations in Malcomb's honor through its website.
