LEXINGTON, Ky. — The City of Lexington is seeking community partners to host events during its annual Waste Reduction Week, running from Nov. 27 through Dec. 6, according to a city announcement.

The initiative aims to encourage residents and businesses to prioritize reducing and reusing materials rather than sending them to landfills, particularly during the holiday season when consumption typically increases. Organizers say the timing allows communities to plan sustainable celebrations and gift-giving practices before the busy holiday period.

The city will collaborate with community partners to feature workshops, tours and events focused on waste reduction and reuse. Potential activities include sessions on reducing food waste, mending clothes, repairing household items and creating art from recyclable materials.

Businesses, nonprofits, neighborhood associations, teachers and anyone interested in waste reduction are invited to host events. The city welcomes a range of formats, including in-person gatherings, self-guided activities and virtual events. All proposals that encourage people to reduce waste and create less trash are eligible for inclusion in the week's programming.
