LEXINGTON, Ky. — The City of Lexington is recruiting community groups, businesses and individuals to host events during Tree Week 2026, an annual celebration set for October 9-18, according to a city announcement.

Tree Week is a community effort to celebrate trees and their many benefits, with organizers welcoming businesses, nonprofits, faith communities, civic organizations and individuals to participate. Past events have included walking tours, outdoor yoga classes, tree plantings, mulching workshops and tree-themed poetry readings.

"Tree Week, now in its eighth year, highlights just how important trees and community are," said Heather Wilson, Lexington's Urban and Community Forestry Section Manager. "This annual tribute to Lexington's trees has really enabled us to share our collective love for the urban canopy by bringing friends and strangers together to celebrate trees and all the ways they bring joy to our lives."

Those interested in hosting an event should submit their plans online by Friday, September 4 — or when the first 80 events are received — to be included in the official Tree Week brochure. All events must be submitted no later than Sunday, October 4. Questions about hosting can be directed to urbanforestry@lexingtonky.gov.

Tree Week Lexington is part of a statewide initiative coordinated by the University of Kentucky's Urban Forest Initiative, with the local planning committee composed of tree advocates from Fayette County. Residents can stay updated by following Live Green Lexington on Facebook and Instagram.
