Council Meeting Recap
So, what just happened at Monday's Council Work Session? It was a pretty quick thirty-seven minute meeting, but council approved some significant spending. The big ticket item was three hundred seventy-five thousand dollars for a partnership with United Way of the Bluegrass on something called the Rides United program.
Wait, three hundred seventy-five thousand for rides? What kind of rides are we talking about here?
The meeting notes don't get into the specifics of what Rides United actually does, but given that it's through United Way, it's likely some kind of transportation assistance program. Council also approved a utility access agreement with Metro Fibernet for broadband infrastructure, though no dollar amount was attached to that one.
Broadband infrastructure sounds promising. Was there any pushback on either of those?
Not at all. Councilmember Baxter motioned to approve the new business items, Councilmember Savigny seconded, and it all passed on voice votes. The meeting also included some nice moments, like honoring Pulitzer Prize winner Chahi Shaquindu with a proclamation.
That's cool. Any drama at all?
Just one public comment from Rick Day, who was pretty critical of the city's compensation study. He called it rigged and said it unfairly impacted employee careers. Otherwise, it was all routine business and recognition ceremonies.
Sounds like they kept things moving. Thanks for helping sort through it all.
Always happy to help make sense of city hall.
