Council Meeting Recap
So, what just happened at today's Council Work Session on May twelfth? Council moved through some significant spending items, including approving a one point three four million dollar fire truck purchase from Atlantic Emergency Solutions and a hundred fifty thousand dollar art project grant for Gatton Park. They also got a presentation on Lextran's twenty twenty-seven budget.
Wait, they approved how much for a fire truck? Over a million dollars?
One point three four three million for a Pierce Enforcer Pumper. That was part of the new business items that Council Member Baxter moved to approve. All the major votes today passed on voice votes with no opposition.
And what's this about Lextran's budget? Are we looking at fare increases or service cuts?
Fred Combs presented a balanced operating budget of thirty nine point three million dollars and a capital plan of nine point three million. The presentation was just informational today, so no votes on that yet.
I noticed there were some pointed public comments. What were folks upset about?
Trevor Davis raised concerns about opioid abatement funding going into interest-bearing accounts instead of addressing the current crisis. Rick Day made some serious accusations about compensation study fraud, claiming the administration rigged the results.
Those sound like issues that aren't going away anytime soon.
Definitely worth watching how council responds to those concerns in future meetings. Thanks for staying engaged with what's happening in our community.
