LEXINGTON, Ky. — Contractors will temporarily close all lanes of Paris Pike in both directions overnight Tuesday under the Interstate 75 bridge to continue concrete bridge work for the ongoing I-75 widening project, according to a press release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 7.

The closure will begin at midnight Tuesday and all lanes are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday. Law enforcement will be stationed at the work site to direct traffic and enforce speed restrictions during the closure.

Motorists traveling eastbound on Paris Pike away from Lexington should use I-75 southbound to Exit 110 at Winchester Road, turn around, and re-enter Paris Pike eastbound via Exit 113. Those heading westbound toward Lexington will detour via I-75 northbound to Exit 115 at Newtown Pike, turn around, and re-enter Paris Pike westbound at Exit 113.

The temporary closure is part of the broader I-75 widening project between Paris Pike and the I-75/I-64 Southern Split. When completed, the 2-mile project will reduce congestion and improve safety throughout the corridor. The work is one phase of the two-part project to widen I-75 and I-64 to four lanes in each direction through Fayette County.

The project is part of Driving Lexington Progress, a $170 million initiative to improve safety and reduce traffic congestion in the growing central Kentucky city. Current traffic projections forecast 130,000 vehicles daily along this section by 2040, exceeding the capacity of the current six-lane interstate.
