LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky American Water announced Friday the completion of its water main replacement projects in Lexington's North Limestone-Euclid-Fontaine areas, and final paving work is set to begin next week in Chevy Chase.

The City of Lexington announced that contractors will begin paving work on Euclid Avenue and High Street starting Wednesday, September 16, continuing through Friday. To minimize traffic disruption in the popular neighborhood near the University of Kentucky, the city said it is allowing contractors to work at night.

The work schedule includes closing the intersection of Euclid Avenue and High Street between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday for preparation, and again between 7 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday for final paving. Additionally, the intersection of Euclid Avenue and Ashland Avenue will be closed between 8 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Monday for prep and paving work.

ATS Construction, working as a contractor for Kentucky American Water, will conduct the paving. The city said it will monitor progress to ensure work occurs productively and inconvenience to residents is minimized. Motorists are encouraged to use navigation apps for the latest closure information.

The paving work completes a project to replace aging water main that began last year. The project frustrated city leaders and residents, who complained about sidewalk conditions and road closures during business hours.

The project was originally scheduled to be completed "last summer or fall," according to city officials. Kentucky American Water said the project replaced aging infrastructure with modern mains to improve service reliability.
