Stormwater panel to hear on complete streets, climate impacts
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Stormwater Stakeholder Advisory Committee was scheduled to examine how Lexington can improve stormwater management on June 5, according to the meeting agenda. The agenda included presentations on street design, natural restoration and climate change impacts on local flooding.
The committee represents a varied group of stakeholders whose mission is to assist LFUCG with attaining the goals of its stormwater program.
The discussion of the Complete Streets Manual was set to address how transportation infrastructure in Lexington can incorporate stormwater management best practices. Kenzie Gleason from LFUCG's Division of Planning was scheduled to present that topic. Presentations on riparian and landscape restoration for stormwater management by University of Kentucky's Dr. John McMaine and on climate change impacts on precipitation and flooding in Kentucky by UK professors Dr. Nabil Al Aamery and Dr. Jimmy Fox were also on the agenda.
The Division of Water Quality oversees the MS4 program, which is designed to maintain and improve the quality of waterways by reducing pollutant discharges from stormwater runoff. The committee meets quarterly on the first Friday of the month at 9 a.m. at the Phoenix Building's 3rd Floor Conference Room.
