This day in Lexington, May six, history might be quiet, but the city certainly isn't. We're right in the heart of Kentucky's most beautiful season, when the Bluegrass lives up to its name.

By early May, the dogwoods that line our neighborhoods have likely finished their spring show, but the city is still bursting with color. The tulips at the Arboretum are probably at their peak right about now, and if you haven't made it out there yet, this is your weekend. The redbud trees that dot our parks are still showing off their purple blooms, and the Bradford pears along New Circle Road are in full white splendor.

This is also prime time for one of Lexington's favorite pastimes, wandering the horse farms. The weather's usually perfect in early May, with highs in the seventies and that crisp morning air that makes you want to drive the back roads with the windows down. The mares and foals are out in the paddocks, and there's something magical about seeing those young thoroughbreds discover their legs for the first time.

It's the kind of May day that reminds you why people fall in love with the Bluegrass. Here's to the city we share.
