LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advised motorists of significant traffic delays after two separate crashes shut down portions of Interstate 75 in the Lexington area on Friday morning, according to a press release from KYTC District 7.

The northbound lane closure occurred at mile point 99 near Clays Ferry Bridge, which crosses the Kentucky River between Fayette and Madison counties. Traffic was diverted at Exit 98 while crews worked to clear the crash site and address a hazardous materials spill. A box truck collided with a semi-truck around 3:50 a.m., and the box truck overturned, trapping the driver. Lexington Fire Department rescued the driver, who was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

In Scott County, the southbound lanes of I-75 near mile point 129 were blocked due to a separate crash involving two tractor-trailers. Traffic was diverted at Exit 129 near Cherry Blossom Way in the Georgetown area. The Scott County Sheriff's Office investigated the incident, and authorities expected the closure to last approximately two hours.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet noted that all lanes had reopened by midday Friday. The agency advised motorists experiencing continued delays to check the live traffic conditions at GoKY.ky.gov and use alternate routes when possible. The crashes occurred during the early morning commute, causing significant traffic backups for those traveling to Lexington for work and school.
