UK athletic programs finish 27th in Directors' Cup standings
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky's athletic department has maintained its position among the nation's elite, according to final 2025-26 Directors' Cup standings released by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. The Wildcats placed 27th out of 365 NCAA Division I schools.
The finishing place marks the 14th consecutive year Kentucky has ranked among the top 10 percent of Division I institutions. The program now joins an elite group of only 18 schools nationwide that have achieved that distinction for the past 14 years, a span beginning with the 2011-12 season.
The Directors' Cup measures overall athletic success across 19 sports, awarding points based on how teams perform in NCAA championship competitions. Championship finishes earn varying points depending on placement, with higher finishes generating more points for schools.
Sixteen of Kentucky's 23 varsity teams advanced to NCAA championships during the 2025-26 season, with one sport, STUNT, not yet featuring NCAA championship competition.
The Wildcats received significant contributions from the volleyball program, which finished as runner-up in the NCAA Tournament after losing to Texas A&M in the championship match. The rifle team also contributed strongly with a fourth-place national finish.
The Kentucky athletic program operated under the leadership of former athletics director Mitch Barnhart during the 2025-26 season, maintaining the competitive standards that have defined the department for more than a decade.
Other schools that have matched Kentucky's sustained excellence over the past 14 years include Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, Virginia and Washington.
