The University of Kentucky baseball program has officially assembled two elite recruiting classes as the MLB Draft signing deadline passed, with prospects from both the 2026 high school class and transfer portal set to arrive on campus within weeks.

Baseball America ranked UK's high school recruiting class No. 10 nationally, bolstered by star pitcher Grayson Willoughby and right-hander Matt Ponatoski. Willoughby, who played for Trinity High School in Louisville, earned MaxPreps' National Player of the Year honor along with Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year and Kentucky Mr. Baseball honors after posting a dominant 0.67 ERA across 62.1 innings with 96 strikeouts. The Wildcats also signed four additional top 200-ranked players from the 2026 high school class.

On the transfer front, Kentucky landed 12 transfers and earned a No. 7 ranking by 64Analytics, bringing in experienced players from mid-major and power conference programs including Ohio State, Maryland, Houston and Tennessee.

The full recruiting class includes 10 freshman prospects and the 12 transfer additions, giving the Wildcats a substantial injection of talent to compete in the Southeastern Conference. The high school contingent features catchers, outfielders, infielders and multiple pitching prospects across left-handed and right-handed arms, with dual-sport players Willoughby and Ponatoski adding versatility to the roster.

Head coach Nick Mingione has emphasized building through both recruiting channels, using the transfer portal to address immediate needs while developing high school talent for the long term. The combination of nationally-ranked high school signees and proven college transfers positions Kentucky to compete at an elevated level in 2026 and beyond.
