UK marks eighth annual One Day for UK giving campaign
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky is marking its eighth annual "One Day for UK," a 24-hour giving celebration running through 11:59 p.m. ET on April 23 that invites alumni, students, faculty and supporters worldwide to back their preferred college or cause at the university.
The campaign, which began at midnight, has become a centerpiece of the university's fundraising efforts. Since its launch in 2019, the initiative has raised more than $13.5 million, with funds supporting student success, research, health care, alumni engagement and athletic programs.
This year's theme — "Fuel the Mission. Drive Success" — reflects the momentum that donor support creates across campus. Jake Lemon, vice president for philanthropy and alumni engagement at UK, emphasized the importance of unified giving.
"When the UK community shifts into gear and gives together, there's real momentum behind it," Lemon said. "Every gift — no matter the size — helps drive the university forward and puts more fuel behind the work that makes UK great."
Last year's campaign drew strong participation. In 2024, more than 3,000 donors contributed more than $1.9 million across more than 50 colleges, programs and causes, raising the combined six-year total to more than $12.5 million. In 2025, the seventh annual giving day saw 2,719 donors make 3,955 gifts totaling $989,369.73, with fundraising challenges and leaderboards driving friendly competition among participating units.
Campus activities are planned throughout the day to boost engagement. Information booths will operate from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Gatton Student Center on the second floor and Alumni Commons, where supporters can learn about the campaign and pick up exclusive merchandise. A roving "Swag Cab" with special guests will circle campus, offering students rides to class and prizes.
To participate, supporters can visit onedayforuk.com to select their preferred college or cause, make a gift and track the campaign's progress. Supporters are encouraged to share their participation on social media using #OneDayforUK.
