UK names 4 Excellent Undergraduate Research Ambassadors
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky's Office of Undergraduate Research has recognized four outstanding students as Excellent Undergraduate Research Ambassadors, honoring their contributions to promoting undergraduate research opportunities across campus during the 2025-26 academic year.
Austin Trotter, a neuroscience and psychology senior from the College of Arts and Sciences; Addison Witucki, a neuroscience and psychology junior from the College of Arts and Sciences; Kaydee Straw, a chemical engineering junior from the Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering; and Owen Walker, an agriculture and medical biotechnology junior from the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment and Lewis Honors College, were announced May 8 at the Office of Undergraduate Research's 20th annual Showcase of Undergraduate Scholars.
According to the University of Kentucky News, the ambassadors were selected in recognition of their outstanding achievements and dedication to fostering community engagement and expanding access to research opportunities.
Throughout the academic year, Undergraduate Research Ambassadors serve as advocates for undergraduate research by conducting tabling events, leading information sessions and workshops, giving presentations to classes and student organizations, and helping connect peers with research opportunities. The award winners collectively contributed 223 of the 670 cumulative service hours completed by the entire 2025-26 ambassador team.
"Being an Undergraduate Research Ambassador has been extremely rewarding," Straw said. "I have had the opportunity to help many students and I've often seen the fruits of that labor." Straw noted that an ambassador had similarly encouraged her to pursue research, and she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to mentor others in kind.
The Office of Undergraduate Research emphasizes that ambassadors must demonstrate academic excellence and leadership while actively engaging in mentored research. Each recipient of the Excellent Undergraduate Research Ambassador honor receives a $250 award.
