LEXINGTON, Ky. — Senior offensive lineman Lance Heard has been named to the preseason watch list for the Outland Trophy, given annually to the nation's top interior lineman.

Heard, a 6-foot-6, 325-pound offensive tackle from Bonita, Louisiana, transferred to Kentucky after two seasons at Tennessee and one season at LSU. He enters the 2026 season as one of the Wildcats' most significant additions on the offensive line. In his college career, Heard has played in 35 games and made 24 starts while seeing action on more than 1,700 snaps and allowing just three sacks overall.

During his 2025 season at Tennessee, Heard was named to the All-Southeastern Conference Third Team after making all 12 starts at left tackle for the Volunteers. He has already earned additional preseason honors this offseason, including second-team selections from both the SEC Media Days contingent and Athlon Sports, as well as a third-team nod from Phil Steele.

Heard's connection to Kentucky offensive coordinator Joe Sloan, who worked with him during LSU's 2023 season, may have played a role in his commitment to the program. The former five-star recruit was initially ranked as the No. 3 offensive tackle in his recruiting class.

The Outland Trophy selection process will continue throughout the fall, with semifinalists to be announced on November 18, followed by three finalists on November 24. The award winner will be announced in December at the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN, with the official presentation scheduled for January 27, 2027, at the Outland Trophy Awards Dinner in Omaha, Nebraska.

Kentucky's football season opens September 5 when the Wildcats host Youngstown State at 1 p.m. ET in Kroger Field on SEC Network+.
