Urban County Council to consider water, housing and policy items
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council is scheduled to consider a diverse slate of business items Thursday evening, including major water quality projects, housing assistance amendments and the abolishment of a local opioid commission, according to the council's published agenda.
The meeting, set for 6 p.m. at Council Chambers, includes second readings on several ordinances and resolutions that would authorize expenditures and policy changes for city departments. Among the proposals up for consideration are two construction projects totaling more than $3.5 million for the Division of Water Quality.
A resolution would authorize the Mayor to accept a bid from Herrick Co., Inc., valued at $3.1 million for coating work on clarifier tanks at the Town Branch and West Hickman wastewater treatment plants. A separate resolution would authorize acceptance of a $424,000 bid from Pace Contracting, LLC, for replacement of a high-flow diversion box at the West Hickman facility.
The council is also expected to consider changes to housing assistance programs. A resolution would amend an agreement with Reach, Inc., to increase the subsidy amount for first-time homebuyers to $50,000 per household and authorize funding in the form of non-repayable loans, according to city officials.
In governance matters, the council will take a first reading on an ordinance to abolish the Opioid Abatement Commission. The commission, established in 2023, was tasked with recommending uses for Lexington's share of the National Opioid Litigation settlement funds.
The council will also consider allowing the Lexington Children's Museum board directors to serve up to three consecutive terms instead of current limits, enabling greater continuity in museum leadership governance.
The agenda also includes second readings for zoning changes affecting approximately 41 acres of property in Districts 7 and 12, budget amendments and various personnel matters. A public hearing on the Mayor's Proposed Budget is scheduled as part of the evening's presentations.
