LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Social Services and Public Safety Committee is scheduled to consider a proposed drag racing ordinance and the expansion of a senior care initiative at its meeting Tuesday, according to the LFUCG meeting agenda.

The drag racing ordinance, referred by 9th District Councilmember Whitney Elliott Baxter, would prohibit vehicle speed contests or reckless driving exhibitions, like burnouts, doughnuts, drifting and wheelies, according to recent reporting. The proposal comes after complaints from residents near Man O' War Boulevard and is modeled after a successful 2022 Louisville ordinance. Offenders would face civil penalties, including potential vehicle impoundment for at least 30 days and fines up to $4,500 for repeat offenses.

Also on the committee agenda is a discussion of A Caring Place, a senior care initiative that uses what is known as the villages model. The proposal would expand existing services to seniors in the community.

The committee agenda additionally includes approval of June meeting minutes, an equitable enforcement initiative focused on code enforcement, a Division of Youth Services update, and referrals from other committees. The meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Council Chamber, 200 E. Main St., according to the agenda document.
