LEXINGTON, Ky. — The YMCA of Central Kentucky is hosting its annual Back to School Rallies on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at multiple locations across Fayette, Franklin, and Jessamine counties, according to Fayette County Public Schools.

The rallies will distribute free, full-size backpacks and school supplies to elementary, middle, and high school students on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. All grade levels will receive supplies at each site. Families must register in person on the day of the event.

Events will be held at seven locations across the region, including the North Lexington Family YMCA, Russell Cave Church of Christ, Shiloh Baptist Church, Tates Creek Community Center, Valley Park, the Nicholasville YMCA Program Center, and Commonwealth Credit Union in Frankfort, which will operate as a drive-through site. Since the YMCA began coordinating the initiative in 2011, the organization has distributed more than 55,000 backpacks to children in Central Kentucky communities. The rallies are designed to ensure that students and families who need support most have the school supplies necessary for a strong school year.

Community members can directly support the initiative by making a donation. It costs $20 to sponsor one child with a backpack and supplies.
