Alexandria Drive to close for repairs ahead of full resurfacing project
LEXINGTON, Ky. — A section of Alexandria Drive will close during daytime hours for the next three days to allow crews to make stabilization repairs, the city announced. According to a notice from Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, the road will close from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 28 through 30 between the roundabout at Old Frankfort Pike and Enterprise Court.
Drivers can detour using Enterprise Court and Old Frankfort Pike while the closure is in effect. The roundabout will remain accessible in both directions of Old Frankfort Pike and Alexandria Drive toward Leestown Road, and local traffic only will be permitted on Alexandria Drive. Those needing to reach Our Native Lane should use Enterprise Court to access Alexandria Drive.
The closure is necessary to stabilize the road shoulders and edges before a more comprehensive rehabilitation project occurs, according to city officials. Once construction is completed on a larger New Circle Road widening initiative at the Leestown Road and New Circle Road interchange, Alexandria Drive will undergo complete resurfacing from Leestown Road to Viley Road.
The New Circle widening project, part of the broader Driving Lexington Progress initiative, is slated for completion in summer 2027. City officials urged drivers to reduce speed around the construction area and watch for equipment, workers, and pedestrians during the closure.
