LEXINGTON, Ky. — Families can now apply for the Fayette County Public Schools Preschool Program for the 2026-27 school year, the district announced.

The Fayette County Preschool Program is the state-mandated preschool offering in Fayette County Public Schools, with applications available at fcps.net/preschool. The online application process includes answers to key questions about eligibility, required household paperwork, application options and classroom locations for the coming school year.

Children are eligible if they turn 4 years old on or before Aug. 1 and fall under federal income guidelines, or if they meet eligibility requirements as a child with a disability. All Fayette County residents interested in preschool placement can apply, though the program does not serve students from outside Fayette County.

The district's preschool program serves multiple locations throughout Lexington, including the Fayette County Preschool Center at 465 Springhill Drive and various elementary schools. The Preschool Center offers three state-funded classrooms with sessions running from 7 to 9:50 a.m. and from 11 a.m. to 1:50 p.m.

Walk-in assistance is available weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 450 Park Place with no appointment needed. Families can also request paper applications be mailed to them by calling (859) 422-0304. For technical assistance with online applications, the district offers a help desk at (859) 422-5555.

The district notes that preschool resources are available in multiple languages to serve families throughout Lexington. Preschool enrollment continues through the summer, with school placements made based on the application's approval date and available space.
