LEXINGTON, Ky. — Junior opposite Morgan Gaerte delivered her best offensive performance in a Kentucky uniform Wednesday night, recording 17 kills on 34 swings and hitting .382 as No. 3 Kentucky defeated No. 18 North Carolina 3-0 in the Shriners Children's Showdown at the Net ACC/SEC Challenge inside Historic Memorial Coliseum.

The victory gave the Southeastern Conference a 7-4 lead in the cross-conference two-day event with four matches remaining. The match sets were 25-11, 25-19 and 25-18.

Gaerte also collected 11 digs for her first double-double as a Wildcat. Brooklyn DeLeye added 15 kills on 32 swings with eight digs, while setter Kassie O'Brien distributed 44 assists on Kentucky's 49 kills. The Wildcats hit .284 as a team, exceeding .600 in the opening set. "Defense won the game for UK," holding North Carolina to .152 for the match, with the team sidelining at over 90 percent efficiency through the first set and a half.

Senior libero Molly Tuozzo recorded 13 digs to extend her streak of double-digit dig matches, while Kennedy Washington contributed three blocks for Kentucky.

The win improves Kentucky to 6-1 on the season and 3-1 against top-25 opponents. The Wildcats have also defeated No. 6 Wisconsin and No. 12 Penn State. North Carolina fell to 4-1 with its first loss of the season.

Gaerte, a transfer from Notre Dame who was named first-team All-ACC after the 2025 season, has been integral to Kentucky's strong start. Kentucky's defense stifled the Tar Heels throughout, with North Carolina managing only eight kills in the opening set on a .040 hitting percentage.

The Wildcats continue their season at the Paradise Invitational in Nassau, Bahamas. Kentucky opens against No. 8 SMU on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN+, with a second match against either No. 14 Purdue or Houston scheduled for Sunday.
