LEXINGTON, Ky. — The General Government and Planning Committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday at 1 p.m. to consider updates on several major city initiatives, including short-term rental regulations and a long-range plan for an industrial area.

The committee will hear an update on short-term rental regulation enforcement, which could include discussion of potential changes to the rules governing the estimated 979 licensed rentals currently operating in Lexington. Regulations initially adopted in July 2023 set occupancy limits and density rules to prevent clustering of short-term rentals in residential neighborhoods, and the city approved amendments in December 2024.

The committee will also receive a presentation on the Blue Sky Small Area Plan, a comprehensive planning effort for the industrial area near Interstate 75 and Athens-Boonesboro Road. The Blue Sky Activity Center is home to approximately 150 businesses supporting over 1,000 jobs, with more than 60% in industries paying at least $20 per hour such as manufacturing, construction, and warehousing.

The plan will assess existing land use and infrastructure, develop a coordinated land use and transportation framework to improve access and connectivity, recommend zoning and policy updates supporting industrial needs, and promote sustainable development. The area was incorporated into the Urban Service Boundary in 2023 and is being planned for future redevelopment.

The committee agenda also includes an update on the "A Sense of Place" initiative and approval of the June 2 committee summary. Items referred to committee will be considered as well. The meeting will be held in the Council Chamber at the Urban County Government Building, 200 E. Main St.
