LEXINGTON, Ky. — All westbound lanes of Interstate 64 in Fayette and Scott counties have reopened following a major traffic incident that closed the roadway and created significant delays for commuters.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reported the initial closure affecting all westbound lanes at the northern split near mile point 74 in Fayette County and near mile point 70 in Scott County. The incident involved multiple collisions with injuries, according to emergency responders at the scene.

Georgetown and Scott County fire departments responded to several injury collisions on I-64 Westbound. The roadway was shut down while emergency crews worked to clear the scene and provide medical assistance. Westbound traffic was diverted onto Interstate 75 North toward Iron Works Pike during the closure.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advises motorists to use GoKY.ky.gov for live traffic updates and road conditions. While all lanes have since reopened, officials cautioned that an investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

The incident highlights ongoing traffic safety concerns. Earlier this month, the Lexington area saw nearly 900 crashes in August, prompting the American Automobile Association to urge drivers to exercise extra caution on area roadways.
