LEXINGTON, Ky. — Interstate 64 westbound has reopened following multiple collisions with injuries that forced a lengthy closure on Wednesday afternoon near the Fayette-Scott County line.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, all westbound lanes near mile point 70 in Scott County were blocked, with traffic diverted to Interstate 75 North toward Iron Works Pike at the northern split in Fayette County. The closures caused significant delays for afternoon commuters.

Georgetown and Scott County fire departments responded to the scene of several injury collisions on the interstate. The exact number of vehicles involved and the extent of injuries were not immediately disclosed by authorities. Investigators worked to clear the roadway and reopen lanes to traffic.

By 2:45 p.m., all lanes had been reopened to motorists. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advised drivers to use alternate routes and directed traffic to GoKY.ky.gov for live updates on road conditions during the closure.

The incident occurred along a stretch of I-64 that connects Lexington to the Scott County area, a major corridor for regional traffic. Wednesday's collision was one of several incidents reported along this portion of the interstate in recent years.
