LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is warning motorists to expect short-term closures on Interstate 75 and Newtown Pike beginning Friday as part of ongoing construction on the Newtown Pike widening project.

The off ramp from I-75 southbound and I-64 east to Newtown Pike will close at noon Friday, Aug. 7, and remain shut until 7 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, according to a press release from KYTC District 7. The closure will allow crews to remove existing concrete pavement and replace it with asphalt.

During the ramp closure, drivers are advised to detour using Exit 113 to Paris Pike. Additionally, the right lane of inbound Newtown Pike and one lane on the I-75 northbound/I-64 west exit ramp to Newtown Pike will remain closed for the duration of the work. Delays are expected, and the transportation cabinet urges motorists to plan accordingly.

The five-day closure is part of the larger Newtown Pike widening project, which when completed in 2027 will add a lane in each direction on Newtown Pike from New Circle Road to I-75. The project aims to improve safety and reduce congestion by increasing capacity to handle current and future traffic volumes. Improvements to the Legacy Trail, including an underpass below Newtown Pike at Citation Boulevard, are also planned.

All closures are tentative and subject to change based on weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances, the cabinet noted.
