The Kentucky High School Transformation Work Group concluded its efforts on June 3 with a fourth and final meeting focused on critical issues surrounding the reimagining of high school experiences across the state.

The work conducted by the group will continue to be studied and refined by the Kentucky United We Learn Council, a broader coalition of educators, students, family members, community leaders and state policymakers tasked with charting Kentucky's educational future.

The transformation work group includes Commissioner of Education Robbie Fletcher, Kentucky Board of Education members, Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman, school district leaders and representatives from the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the Council on Postsecondary Education and state government branches.

The group is part of a state network invited by the National Association of State Boards of Education to build capacity for rich student experiences that foster content mastery and durable skills. In previous meetings held throughout 2026, the work group examined barriers to innovation, including challenges with standardized credit systems that may limit school flexibility in awarding graduation credits.

Plans call for the Kentucky United We Learn Council to continue this work with visits to schools across the state to observe high school transformation efforts already underway in districts. The broader initiative builds on years of effort, including a statewide 2020 survey and a 2021 listening tour that informed Kentucky's United We Learn vision for education emphasizing community collaboration and innovative practices.
