
KY 1987 closed for bridge approach repairs in Mercer County
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has closed KY 1987 (Kirkwood Road) at the Salt River Bridge in Mercer County to complete necessary repairs to the bridge approach. The roadway, located at mile point 5.385, will remain closed until further notice, according to a statement from KYTC District 7.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes while the work continues. KYTC cautioned that all closures and repair schedules are tentative and subject to change based on weather conditions, emergencies, and other unforeseen circumstances beyond the agency's control.
KY 1987, also known as Kirkwood Road, serves as a connector route for tourism and residential areas in the region. Mercer County, where the closure is occurring, is located in central Kentucky within the Bluegrass region and is known for frontier history, preserved Shaker heritage, rolling Bluegrass farmland, bourbon tourism, and scenic Kentucky River landscapes.
