KYTC Schedules I-75 Ramp Closure for Safety Treatment
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has scheduled an overnight closure of an Interstate 75 exit ramp in Madison County to apply high friction surface treatment, a proven safety improvement, according to KYTC District 7.
The second off-ramp at mile point 89.8 on I-75 southbound will close Friday, April 10 from 8 p.m. through 7 a.m. Saturday, April 11, weather permitting. High friction surface treatments are pavement safety applications that reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities, especially during wet roadway conditions.
Motorists can use an alternate route by continuing southbound on I-75 to Exit 87, turning left, then turning left again to re-enter I-75 northbound, then taking Exit 90 and turning right to travel southbound on U.S. 25 into Richmond.
The treatment is part of Kentucky's comprehensive approach to reducing roadway departure crashes. Data have shown a 70- to 75-percent reduction in crashes at treated sites, making the treatment one of the state's most effective safety investments.
This work is part of the larger $13.5 million I-75 safety and pavement improvement project in Madison County that began in March, which has included repaving all six interstate lanes and safety-focused exit ramp pavement upgrades at busy Richmond intersections.
