KYTC to close U.S. 25 in Madison County for pavement work
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will close sections of U.S. 25 (Lexington Road) in Madison County over three consecutive days beginning Monday, Oct. 5, for pavement saw-cutting work designed to extend the roadway's lifespan, according to a KYTC District 7 press release.
Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through Wednesday, Oct. 7, weather permitting. Different sections of the highway will be closed each day, with crews performing the preventative maintenance to help prevent future joint failures.
On Monday, U.S. 25 will close from mile point 24 at Clay Lane to mile point 25.3, south of the KY 627 intersection. Southbound traffic can detour onto KY 627 (Boonesborough Road), then right onto KY 2878 (Colonel Road) to rejoin U.S. 25. Clay Lane will remain accessible to northbound traffic from Richmond.
Tuesday's closure spans from mile point 22.5 at KY 2878 (Colonel Road) to mile point 24 at Clay Lane. Southbound drivers can use the same detour route via KY 627 and KY 2878.
Wednesday's work will close U.S. 25 from mile point 20.3 at Derby Chase Drive to mile point 22.5. That day's detour directs southbound traffic onto KY 627, then to I-75, with motorists exiting at Exit 90A to resume travel south on U.S. 25.
The KYTC said detour signage and message boards will be posted throughout the project area, with flaggers on site to assist local traffic. Residents within closure limits will maintain access to their properties, and emergency vehicles will be permitted passage at all times.
All closures remain tentative and subject to change based on weather conditions or other unforeseen factors. Real-time traffic updates are available at GoKy.ky.gov.
