LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will host a public meeting on a proposed corridor-wide planning study for North Broadway between Main Street and Kingston Road, according to a KYTC District 7 press release.

The study aims to evaluate existing conditions and develop conceptual solutions that promote safe mobility for all roadway users on the corridor. The planning team will present complete street concepts designed to make North Broadway a safer and more useful roadway for the community.

Community members, local officials and stakeholders are invited to an open house format meeting on August 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dunbar Community Center, 545 N Upper Street. Attendees can arrive at any time during the two-hour event, and study team members will be available to answer questions and discuss proposed improvements.

The timing of the study aligns with Lexington's broader efforts to improve street safety. Broadway was identified as one of the four roads with the most pedestrian accidents in 2023, alongside New Circle Road, Limestone and Nicholasville. In 2023, Lexington experienced 180 collisions involving pedestrians or cyclists, resulting in 22 deaths.

The study is part of Lexington's Complete Streets initiative, adopted by the Urban County Council in December 2022, which aims to create safer, more welcoming streets for all users, whether walking, biking, using transit or driving. Complete streets designs typically incorporate features such as protected bike lanes, improved sidewalks and intersection crossings.
