Lexington offering free trash disposal Saturday
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The City of Lexington is offering Fayette County residents a free trash disposal day Saturday for non-hazardous household waste, the city announced this week.
The event runs from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bluegrass Regional Transfer Station, 1505 Old Frankfort Pike. Fayette County residents can dispose of up to one pickup truck load of non-hazardous household waste, with residents also able to bring items in a car or SUV, according to the city.
Items normally serviced through the city's curbside trash collection program will be accepted without charge. These include bagged household waste, mattresses, box springs, and small indoor household furniture such as tables and chairs. Residents may also dispose of up to four tires off the rim at no cost.
Construction and demolition debris, yard waste, and outdoor items such as grills and sheds will be accepted but will incur a regular gate rate fee during the event. Electronic items, household appliances, and hazardous waste including paint, motor oil, and pesticides will not be accepted.
Participants must present a valid Fayette County driver's license or ID listing a Lexington address. All loads will be subject to inspection, and acceptance of materials at no cost will be at the discretion of Transfer Station employees. Residents should use 1549 Old Frankfort Pike for GPS directions and enter at the blue and white "Bluegrass Regional Transfer Station" sign.
The city offers free trash disposal days four times a year in January, April, July and October. For more information, residents can call LexCall at 311 or (859) 425-2255.
