Lexington offers free spring mulch to residents Saturday
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The city's Division of Waste Management will distribute free mulch to Lexington residents on Saturday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to noon or until supplies run out at 1631 Old Frankfort Pike.
Residents should enter the site via Jimmie Campbell Drive and follow posted signage to the pickup location. The mulch, limited to one pickup truck load per person, comes from yard waste collected by the city over the past several months and represents part of Lexington's ongoing effort to divert waste from landfills through composting.
A self-serve area will be available for residents picking up smaller amounts of mulch, though those self-loading will be limited to a 10-minute loading time due to demand. Those choosing to self-load must bring their own shovels, bags and other supplies, as the city does not provide tools or bags.
The event is restricted to Fayette County residents only, who must bring a driver's license with a Lexington address. As part of the city's waste management program, Lexington residents can place yard waste in a gray cart for weekly collection, which feeds into the city's composting operations.
