LEXINGTON, Ky. — LexTran will offer extended bus service on Saturday, July 4, with multiple routes running late into the night to accommodate attendees heading to and from the city's Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular, according to service information posted by the transit agency.

All buses will run on Sunday level service, with extended schedules for fireworks. The fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. on July 4, and visitors and residents are encouraged to come downtown for the best view. The fireworks will be launched from the company's railyard at the corner of Oliver Lewis Way and West Main Street.

The extended service includes evening departures as late as 12:20 a.m. on Routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, providing transportation for festival-goers well into the early morning hours. LexTran passengers should check the July 4 Extended Schedules online for detailed route information and specific stops that will be missed during the holiday.

The holiday brings significant service changes citywide. The earliest disruptions will occur for the 50th annual Bluegrass 10,000, 5K and Fun Run, which begins at 7:30 a.m. downtown. Bus detours for the race will run from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m., with all buses loading on High Street during that window. Routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 will miss certain stops as the race, parade and festival take place downtown.

Lexington is preparing for a week of Fourth of July events, including a parade, races, an ice cream social and fireworks downtown. This year's fireworks display will feature an extra special grand finale, in honor of America's 250th birthday.
