LEXINGTON, Ky. — All LexTran routes will operate on extended Sunday schedules Saturday, July 4, offering additional service into the night as the city celebrates Independence Day and the nation's 250th birthday with festivities throughout downtown.

The transit agency is extending service to accommodate residents and visitors attending the fireworks spectacular scheduled to begin at approximately 10 p.m., which will launch from the R.J. Corman Railroad railyard near the intersection of Main Street and Oliver Lewis Way.

Multiple detours will be in effect throughout the day to accommodate downtown activities, including the Fourth of July Parade at noon and various community events. Residents are encouraged to check the detailed detour information before traveling.

Extended service will be available on all 12 routes, with final departures from the downtown Transit Center scheduled as late as 12:20 a.m. on routes serving key corridors. Route 1 to Woodhill will depart at 11:30 p.m., Route 2 to Georgetown at 11:30 p.m., Route 3 to Tates Creek at 11:30 p.m., and Route 5 to Nicholasville Road at 11:30 p.m., providing multiple options for riders heading downtown or returning home after the celebrations.

The July 4 celebration is one of the city's marquee annual events, featuring a parade, the 50th running of the Bluegrass 10,000 race, patriotic concerts, and an ice cream social.
