LEXINGTON, Ky. — No. 12 Alabama scored 28 unanswered points after halftime to defeat Kentucky 45-17 on Saturday at Kroger Field, handing the Wildcats their first loss of the season.

Kentucky scored first and led 17-13 at halftime behind a strong defensive performance and an efficient opening half by quarterback Kenny Minchey. But Alabama's offense found its rhythm in the second half, with running backs E.J. Crowell and Daniel Hill combining for multiple touchdowns to break the game open.

Minchey completed 18 of 31 passes for 146 yards and one touchdown, while rushing back Jason Patterson led the ground game with 53 yards. Defensively, linebacker Ty Bryant recorded 10 tackles and Jordan Castell added nine tackles and an interception, but the unit was unable to contain Alabama's sustained second-half drive.

Kentucky's defense set an aggressive tone early, with defensive end Mi'Quise Humphrey-Grace recording a defensive touchdown on an interception return in the opening quarter and forcing a fumble that led to another UK possession. The Wildcats' offense capitalized on the field position, with Minchey connecting with tight end Henry Boyer for a 20-yard touchdown in the second quarter to give Kentucky a 14-7 lead.

Alabama answered methodically, kicking three field goals to trail 17-13 entering halftime. The Tide's adjustments paid immediate dividends in the second half. After forcing a Kentucky punt to open the third quarter, Alabama cut the deficit to one point with a 34-yard field goal before seizing momentum with back-to-back rushing touchdowns to take a 31-17 lead.

The Wildcats were unable to find an offensive rhythm in the second half, punting on three consecutive possessions while Minchey was sacked twice. Alabama added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including a five-yard pass from Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell to Rico Scott, to close out the victory.

Kentucky returns to the road for the first time this season, traveling to face Texas A&M on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
