LEXINGTON, Ky. — Construction for the I-75 widening project will require a short-term closure of Olivia Lane off Newtown Pike beginning Friday, July 31 at 7 p.m. The closure is expected to last approximately one week, with the road set to reopen on or around August 7, weather and schedule permitting.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the closure is necessary to allow contractors to install pipe and construct curb and gutter at the entrance to Olivia Lane. Motorists needing access to the area may use Sugar Maple Lane as a detour during the week-long construction period.

The work is part of the broader I-75 widening project, which aims to expand the interstate to eight lanes—four in each direction—over a 2.3-mile corridor from the Paris Pike exit to the I-75/I-64 southern split. The project is scheduled for completion in 2026.

The work represents part of the larger Driving Lexington Progress initiative, which involves $170 million in Kentucky Transportation Cabinet construction projects aimed at improving safety and easing traffic congestion in central Kentucky.

All work and closures are scheduled on a tentative basis and subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies, and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways. Motorists can stay updated on real-time traffic conditions using GoKY or Waze on their smartphones.
