LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Urban County Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a work session Wednesday to discuss three major initiatives shaping Lexington's growth and development strategy.

The 1:30 p.m. meeting at the Phoenix Building will examine placemaking efforts, progress on the Downtown Area Master Plan, and proposed amendments to data center zoning regulations.

The Downtown Area Master Plan, being developed with lead consultant MKSK, aims to guide future growth and revitalization of the city's core while addressing changing economic and social needs. The plan includes strategies for housing, business, transportation, art, and entertainment and the Division of Planning will host community workshops to gather input on topics including commuting, housing, and zoning.

Boyd O. Sewe, principal planner for long range planning, is the project manager for the downtown master plan. Hannah Crepps, a planner in the outreach and strategic planning division, is also leading community engagement efforts on the initiative.

The work session will also feature a presentation from Daniel Crum, principal planner for planning services, regarding proposed changes to data center zoning regulations, though specific details about those amendments were not immediately available.

As a work session, the meeting will focus on discussion and information-sharing rather than formal votes. The Planning Commission reviews the city's comprehensive plan, approves subdivision plats and development plans, and makes recommendations to the council for zone change requests.
