Planning Commission to Hear Parking Expansion for Andover Club
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Urban County Planning Commission held a zoning public hearing on April 23 to consider a parking expansion and related development proposal for the Andover Club property, according to meeting materials posted by LFUCG.
The proposal would expand the Andover Club's existing parking lot by adding 26 new parking spaces at 3433 Country Club Drive. The petition seeks to rezone a portion of the 0.368-acre property from Townhouse Residential (R-1T) to Neighborhood Business (B-1) zoning to accommodate the parking expansion for the restaurant, banquet facility and athletic facility, according to the agenda.
The Zoning Committee and staff both recommended approval of the rezoning request. Staff noted the project aligns with the city's 2045 Comprehensive Plan, Imagine Lexington, by ensuring continued viability of a neighborhood amenity and gathering point while maintaining accessibility through various transportation modes.
The Andover Club project is part of a broader development effort for the former Andover Golf Course property. According to reporting from the Hamburg Journal, developer Anderson Communities seeks to reopen the clubhouse and construct 88 townhouses on approximately 19 acres of the property. The remaining 145 acres are controlled by neighborhood associations who have maintained the land as green space with walking trails since acquiring the golf course in 2018.
The Planning Commission reviews and adopts the community's comprehensive plan, approves subdivision plats and development plans, and makes recommendations to the council for zone change requests. The commission's process includes both abbreviated hearings for unopposed proposals with staff approval and full public hearings for contested applications.
A related development plan for the Lochmere Tract 4, Lot 1B must be certified within two weeks of the Planning Commission's approval before the recommendation can be forwarded to the Urban County Council for final action.
