LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to close a portion of Kentucky Route 29 in Jessamine County on Thursday for drainage infrastructure work, the agency announced in a press release.

KY 29, also known as High Bridge Road, will be closed at mile point 1.69 Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., weather permitting. The closure is necessary for cross drain installation, according to the KYTC announcement.

KYTC District 7, which oversees the closure, recommended motorists use Handys Bend Road as an alternate route north of the closure. No alternate route exists for traffic traveling south of the work zone, though emergency vehicles will be permitted to pass through as needed.

Message boards will alert drivers of the closure, and work zone personnel will be present throughout the project. All signage and personnel will be in place to ensure motorist safety.

The agency noted that the closure is tentative and subject to change based on weather conditions, emergencies and other unforeseen circumstances. Motorists can monitor real-time road conditions and updates on the GoKY.ky.gov website.

KY 29 runs north from High Bridge through Wilmore before ending in Nicholasville, the Jessamine County seat. District 7 serves 12 counties across central Kentucky, including Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Scott and Woodford.
