LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that rolling roadblocks will close lanes on Interstate 75 on June 24 to relocate a utility line as part of ongoing construction work.

The temporary closures will occur from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both I-75/I-64 southbound near mile marker 118 and I-75/I-64 northbound near mile marker 108. The Kentucky Utilities electrical line relocation is needed to complete construction of a soundwall as part of the broader I-75 widening project.

"Interstate traffic will be slowed, and motorists should expect delays," according to the transportation cabinet's announcement. Drivers are urged to plan accordingly and consider using alternate routes during the closure window.

The work is part of the major I-75 widening project, which aims to expand the corridor to eight lanes. When completed in 2026, the project will reduce congestion and improve safety throughout the 2-mile corridor from the Paris Pike exit to the I-64/75 southern split. The effort represents the second phase of widening I-64/I-75 in Fayette County.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet operates under the Driving Lexington Progress initiative, which encompasses $170 million in transportation infrastructure improvements throughout central Kentucky. The rolling roadblocks are tentative and subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies, and other unforeseen factors.
