LEXINGTON, Ky. — The right inbound lane of Tates Creek Road will close beginning Monday, Sept. 21, as the city begins sanitary sewer construction that is expected to continue through the end of the year, according to a notice from the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government.

The initial work will run from New Circle Road to Dove Run Road, with construction progressing from New Circle toward Dove Run. Drivers should anticipate slowdowns during morning commute hours, though no detour is needed to travel along Tates Creek Road itself.

The entrance to Merrick Drive from Tates Creek Road will be blocked for approximately two weeks starting around late October. During that closure, access to Merrick Place and Merrick Inn will require drivers to take Tates Creek Road to Dove Run Road, then turn right at the Merrick Place sign and follow signage from Commodore Drive to reach Merrick Drive and Merrick Inn.

The project is part of the broader Merrick trunk initiative, which aims to replace 7,200 feet of sanitary sewer pipe along Tates Creek Road by the end of 2027. The work is required under federal consent decree obligations for Lexington to upgrade its sanitary sewer system and reduce combined sewer overflows.

City officials urged drivers to exercise caution in the construction zone and remain alert for workers and equipment.
