LEXINGTON, Ky. — Rebecca Shearer has been selected as interim executive principal of Bryan Station High School for the 2026-27 school year, beginning July 1. The veteran educator steps into the role following the departure of Eric Hale, who was named Kentucky's 2024 Secondary Principal of the Year.

Shearer brings 28 years of education experience to the position. She currently serves as the BSHS Academy Coach and previously worked as the school's Information Technology principal since joining Bryan Station in 2019. Before her arrival in Lexington, Shearer worked for Lincoln County Public Schools as an academic performance coach. She holds a bachelor's degree from Eastern Kentucky University and a master's in School Improvement from the University of the Cumberlands.

"Rebecca Shearer is a proven instructional leader with an exceptional commitment to the Bryan Station High School community," said Fayette County Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Bill Bradford. "She has a passion for continuing the acceleration of student outcomes and collaborating with students, teachers, staff, and families to advance the great work already in place."

Hale, who took the helm at the school in July 2020, is credited with transforming the academies into a model of academic excellence, with graduation rates and postsecondary readiness increasing significantly. Bryan Station operates as a magnet school featuring several academies, including Air Force JROTC, a Spanish Immersion Program, and specialized academies in information technology, engineering, and medical sciences.

During the 2026-27 school year, the School-Based Decision Making Council will work alongside Chris Salyers, chief of high schools, to conduct a thorough principal selection process for a permanent replacement.
