Single-lane closures set on Newtown Pike for weekend paving work
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Drivers on Newtown Pike should expect delays this weekend while crews perform paving work on the road's widening project, according to a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 7 news release issued October 14, 2026.
Beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, October 16, one lane in each direction will close on both northbound and southbound Newtown Pike (KY 922) between mile markers 1.6 and 3.2. The lane closures will alternate between the left and right lanes in both directions and continue through the weekend. All lanes are scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, October 19.
The cabinet said the schedule is tentative and could change because of weather, emergencies or other factors beyond its control. Motorists are advised to plan accordingly. The agency also encourages drivers to check conditions through the GoKY system or Waze before traveling.
The closures are part of the Newtown Pike widening project. When it is completed in 2027, the project will add a lane in each direction on Newtown Pike from New Circle Road (KY 4) to Interstate 75. The cabinet said the added capacity is intended to improve safety and traffic flow for current and future traffic volumes. The project also includes improvements to Legacy Trail.

The release notes that the cabinet's District 7 covers Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Scott and Woodford counties.
